Best & Worst- Emmy's 2010

Well, it's that time again! It's time for me to pass judgment on celebrities based on what they are wearing. One of my favorite pastimes.
This is Toni Collette. I think there is a photograph on the lower part of her dress.
Tina, this dress has a cute cut and shape but the pattern on it came from an Egyptian pyramid.

I don't really know who this is but her dress is very pretty.

Hey, look! It's the newly married Krasinski's! He is handsome. Her dress is very lavender and something is wrong with it.

This is just crazy because my arms look exactly like that. It's as if they took a picture of my arms and put them on her body. Crazy.

Hello, cute Parker's! She always looks good.....

I don't know who you are but you need to calm down with the hair. Okay thanks bye.

This is Mindy Kaling. She is an actress and writer on one of my very favorite shows, "The Office". She is hilarious with a capital H. And this dress is horrid with a capital H. The whole thing is just wrong and I'm not sure what bet she lost but oh my heavens. Bless her heart.

Detective Olivia Benson is so pretty and her dress is gorgeous but I'm gonna need her to put on some blush.

This is a girl from "The Hills" and I'm not sure why she deserves to be at the Emmy's. The green looks good on her and the dress is cute but I feel like she could wear that to a country club. This is the Emmy's honey. Dress up. Mmmkay?

The skirt is fine but I'm pretty certain she got the shirt, belt and necklace from Chico's or something. Talbot's. Whatever.

This is the necklace of Lea Michelle. I looove it. Maybe I could buy it for myself? I bet it only costs like thirty dollars or something.

And here is her whole person. Ever so pretty.

I'm not sure what's happening here but I feel like she needs a life coach or something.

Kristin Wiig is one of my very favorite funny ladies and she is wearing one of my very least favorite dresses.

Kim is looking very Grecian.

I don't know who this pretty little princess is but she is a beautiful little girl. Hooray for being age appropriate!! Although, she is kinda posing like Jon Benet.

Keri Russell came from a beach wedding where she was a bridesmaid.

Ohhhh hi! How are you? I'm good! How are you? Good! Oh, okay well your dress is really ugly. Have a great night!

Please eat a sandwich.

KATE!!!! OH, you make me wanna THROW UP!! WHAT in the WORLD are you DOING at the EMMY'S, woman!?!? GO HOME. Now. Go home. Go. Home.

Go home.

I think she is so pretty. Navy was a theme of the night for sure.

Excellent choice of earrings!

Jewel reminds me of a table cloth.

Smile, Jenna!!

I love everything about this. Love the hair. Love the necklace. Love the bracelets. Love the dress. LOVE. THE. DRESS. Love the cut. Love the color. LOVE.

Um, I um... um, I ....... I don't...... no.... because, see.... I mean, it's well.... um. Um.

These shoes are fabulous and I could never wear them but oh my gosh. Heidi Klum wears great shoes.

Hair, awesome. Necklace, AMAZING. Dress, beautiful. Oh, wait, no. Dress is actually a good 2 feet too short.

Mr. and Mrs. Fallon. I just love me some Jimmy Fallon. He did a great job hosting. That color is pretty on her but I wish she had jazzed it up just a bit.

There is nothing spectacular about this picture but I just love him.

Scratch my comment about Jewel's dress. The table cloth has just arrived.

Claire Danes is sparkly and pretty.

Thou shalt not make fun of Betty White.

Hey, look, it's the Bacon's! Kyra always makes a great choice.

The Arnett's arrived! Amy had a baby 3 weeks ago and is looking fabulous. Such a pretty color on her...

That's all I've got for today, folks.

Don't Give Up On Us, Baby...

The empty screen. It's always so daunting when I go to write a new blog post. I come to the window, and the cursor flashes at me, waiting to get some letters that run across the screen.

It's scary though, sometimes. Especially when I have nothing to say. There are times when I'm in the car and I write an entire blog in my head, and then I just sit and the computer and recite it. No worries, it's all there.

But then there are times when that flashing cursor seems to say to me "Say something meaningful" or "This probably isn't going to be one of your best" or "I have a feeling this isn't going to be funny at all".

Something has happened lately where I just don't feel like I have much to say that is of any value. I love blogging because I love writing. I love creative writing. I love the casual feel of writing about the mundane.

But I've had some great posts as well... I love to go back and read blogs from years past and see where I've been and what I've felt. I always feel like I wrote with meaning.

Comfort & Joy was a turning point for me. I was really growing up alot when I wrote that post and I often go back and read it to remind myself of a few things.

Home is Here is another post that just poured out of me one day.

This post was about a Cajun adventure that I had that will go down in history as one of the funniest experiences of my life.

The Way It Is is a post about marriage that was inspired by an episode of The Bachelor. I get inspiration from all kinds of places, y'all.

But as I sit here at my desk this lovely Friday, I feel uninspired and not very creative.

And sometimes I feel like y'all get tired of me going on and on about my snuggie. The mundane is great, but sometimes I feel like I need to be writing meatier things and I am just fresh out of ideas. I don't have any meat to give you right now.

For now, all I can say is, thank you for reading. I've been doing this for almost 4 years now, and I've loved every minute of it. It means alot to me that I have "readers" and I love thinking of new things to write to all of you. I hope you continue to stick around and read even though I don't have anything interesting to say right now. Don't give up on me yet!

I Do My Morning Bible Study Wearing a Leopard Print Snuggie

I don't think that's a problem or anything, I just feel like I needed to share.

Because it's bizarre.

Because I'm bizarre.

I just sit there and read my Bible and spend my morning prayer time in the comfort of my snuggie. My leopard print snuggie. Cause it's warm and my arms can be free.

That was a wonderful tidbit of information, wasn't it?

Moving on.

I was at a meeting at a client's office today and I got a text that said "It is sooooo hot outside!!". I wrote back "I know, right?!? And also, who is this?". They never wrote back.

Maybe I should just start texting my feelings, emotions and opinions to random phone numbers.

Some random stay at home mom in Philadelphia will get a text from me that says "Traffic is horrible today!". Or perhaps a teenager in Orlando will receive a message that says "I love macaroni and cheese and I always will" or "Gia from the Bachelor Pad has a weird mouth, don't you agree?"

Could be fun.

Now for the heart of this post.... I have a challenge for you people.

I need you to find me some shoes.

I know all of you have nothing better to do with your time and you're free as a bird and aren't busy whatsoever so clearly I am going to get a huge response from this. The tens of you who read this will overwhelm me with options, I'm sure.

I need some black heels for work. And I can't find them.

These are the requirements:

1. They must be black

2. They must be heeled

3. The heel can't be too high. 3 inches is probably the maximum.

4. I don't think I want patent leather, unless the shoe is to die for.

5. I'd like for them to cost $75 or less.

6. The hardest part.... IT HAS TO BE IN A SIZE 5.

Ok, go. I'm waiting on the edge of my seat.

I may or may not be wearing a snuggie right now.

Things That I'm Sure Of

1. I am sure that these are not what I was imagining when I searched for black heeled pumps at Zappos.
2. I am sure that my husband is amazing since he brought me Chick-fil-A at church tonight before my choir practice. He's amazing anyway, but when a man delivers Chick-fil-A, gives you a kiss and then leaves, that is ministry, my friends.

3. I am sure that everyone needs to carry Benadryl with them at all times. On Monday, my 3 year old niece Grace was playing outside and got covered in fire ants. In resulted in a severe allergic reaction. My parents were watching her and gave her a Benadryl immediately but her condition still got worse. After taking her to the emergency room, the doctor told them the
Benadryl probably saved her life. Poor punkin is covered head to toe in bites.... so scary.

4. I am sure that our God is merciful and loving and protects His children. Praise God for having His hand on our sweet little Grace.

5. I am sure that I don't want to go to work tomorrow. It was a little too much for me today. I never really got to eat and on more than one occasion one of my co-workers said something to the effect of "Hey, Jen, you're not acting very Disney Princess-ish today. What's up with you?". Those people know me far too well. For my birthday on Friday, they got me a cheesecake with dipping sauce (ON THE SIDE) from Cheesecake Factory. Next to it was this:

And yes, the card sang "Part of Your World".

6. I am sure that I am slightly addicted to The Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss Cheese. They are in perfect little snack-sized wedges and they taste oh-so-good.

They sure did make that cow look like it's laughing. I mean what is she so tickled at? It's cheese. It's not funny. It's one of the major food groups.

7. I am sure that I panicked when I saw this while shopping with my girlfriends this weekend.

WHO SAID THAT THE BODY SUIT COULD COME BACK?! Ohhhh mercy.

8. I am sure, nay... I am CERTAIN that the body suit can NOT come back.

9. I am sure that we also saw overalls hanging on a rack this weekend in a trendy teen store and I'm not sure so that I'm ready for those to come back either.

I don't really know how I feel about those shoes she is wearing either.

10. I am sure that you wasted your time reading this.

The Piano

Friday morning when I got to work, I learned that my parents had posted a video on their Facebook pages of me as a 2 year old playing my piano.

(Okay I have spent the entire day trying to upload these videos and I am about to pull scream/cry/eat fettucine alfredo so you are just going to get a YouTube link)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKOcLd5mhOs

As you can see, I've always been really quiet and dainty and soft.

For 12 or 13 years, I took piano lessons from Lindsee's mom. I spent hours practicing on that piano. Then, my senior year of highschool, I actually began to teach piano lessons myself. I had 4 students and I am sure that they are all concert pianists now. Or, not.

When I left for college, I would come home on the weekends and play to my heart's content. And after I got married and moved to Louisiana, I had a huge piano-shaped void in my life and when we came to visit Houston, I would always spend a chunk of my weekend at my parent's piano.

I'd always hoped that someday in the distant future, I would inherit that piano. I've just spent so much time sitting at it and playing those familiar keys that I couldn't ever bear for someone else to have it. But in the meantime, it belonged to my parents.

And then, my birthday was Friday. I turned 26. Grant and Lindsee were really weird as we left dinner, trying to stall me. Grant would gasp and point at my car and say "What happened here?! What happened to your car?!" and I would just look at him like he was crazy and say "Um... it's bird poop". He was thinking of anything and everything to get me to stay put for awhile so my parents could get in the house and get settled. He at one point asked me if I enjoyed my dinner.

And then Lindsee was doing her mascara and loudly proclaimed "Well, I am really just enjoying doing my makeup in this still car!".

Oh, my people are weird.

So I came home and my family was already in my house. Here is what happened.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlOel7sqOGI

The video cuts off before you see me hugging my mom for a good 15 seconds.

I LOVE having the piano in the house. I've pulled out all of my old books and playing things that I haven't played in a decade. Even Grant is learning!

For some reason he doesn't want me to give him lessons.

I can't imagine why.

That first video up there shows that I am both a talented pianist and singer. Geez.

You May Never See Paragraphs Again

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time for another edition of "Jen the Newlywed: Random Thoughts That Are Not Connected or Related in Any Form Whatsoever". What can I say, I am a literary genius that writes masterpieces for your reading pleasure every 2 to 3 days.

My breakfast lately has consisted of 2 Honey Maid Graham Crackers and one big ol' cup of coffee. I'm using the "Skinny Vanilla Latte" creamer from International Delight. It's my favorite.

I'm also on a big kick of snacking on kettle cooked chips. I feel like I'm being healthier or something. I have no idea if that is true or not but it makes me feel better when eating them by the handfulls.

My niece Grace Parker really loves wearing dresses and kinda refuses to wear anything else. Scarlett and Juliet are like that too. Very feminine little ladies. Anyhoo, my sister Jaclyn bought Grace a t-shirt that is pink and has sparkles and bedazzles all over it and it says "Preschool Princess" or something to that effect. Even though it wasn't a dress, Jaclyn thought Grace might wear it due to all the sparklies on it.... but when Jaclyn presented the shirt to 3 year old Grace, Grace looked at it and said "Mommy? Do you know what that shirt says? It says "Grace Will Not Wear That Shirt".

I wish she had opinions.

Sometimes when my husband is playing Call of Duty on the XBox and talking to all his buddies via headset, I like to run into the room and start singing and dancing, Vaudeville style. HE LOVES THAT.

So, I'm still all up in the ancestry.com and learning about my family lineage, as well as Grant's. I was able to trace my mom's paternal grandfather's line back to the early 1100's. They were all nobles and lords and earls in England. Just like we are here in Texas.

Grant has a great great grandfather named Duardo. He also has a great great grandfather named Joaquimo. Keep in mind that my husband was born with blond hair and still has the clearest blue eyes. I was all confused.

I feel like this is the 3rd time that I've blogged about this, but if you haven't had the macaroni and cheese at Panera, you need to do that.

I washed the sheets. Grant got in bed and wouldn't shut up about how they feel so good and "they smell like a summer breeze". He then proceeded to sing "Summer Breeze... makes me feel fine....blowing through the jasmine in my mind".

I feel like I should probably wash the sheets more often than I do.

When I turned on the closet light this morning, it flickered about 30 times and then went off. The whole time it was flickering, I was saying "No no no no no no" and then went it went out I had to go get our really bright flashlight and pick out my clothes holding this giant light. I felt like I was camping.

Today's heat index is 109 degrees. I heard the weather man say something about taking care of your plants because this heat is "cruel and brutal" to plants. Um, it is cruel and brutal to humans. Thanks.

I'm done for today. Now go ponder for the next 24 hours on all the insightful, profound wisdom I have shared with you.

Too Tired for Paragraphs

Friday

Grant golfed.

Grant hung out with friends from college.

I had coffee and pie with Liz at House of Pies.

And it was good.

Saturday

We both slept till 10:00.

Had breakfast at the bagel cafe.

They put one pound of cream cheese on my bagel.

I had to scrape some off, which is a form of blasphemy.

We went to a store called "The Bike Barn" as Grant tried to convince me to get a bike.

I just kept saying things like "I like the teal one" or "these handle bars are awkward" or "That looks like its from the 70's. It's cute".

We went to Home Depot for 11 hours.

We went to Ace Hardware.

We came home.

We cleaned the house.

We went to see "Dinner for Schmucks"

We came home.

I watched "Police Women of Memphis" cause it makes me laugh.

And it was good.

Sunday

We went to Sunday school.

We went to church.

We had brunch with Grant's college buddies at Cadillac Bar.

Mexican food buffet.

Magical.

Delicious.

Healthy.

Sorta.

Chips.

Queso.

Unlimited quantities.

Heaven.

Came home.

NAPPED.

Glorious.

Went to my parents' house for dad's birthday.

Swam with Grace and Dean.

Gave Dad his birthday present.

Gave Mom & Dad their 36th anniversary card.

Ate a cheeseburger.

And chips.

And macaroni and cheese.

Loved on Grace and Dean all snuggled in their pajamas.

Played piano.

Came home.

Went to sleep.

AND IT WAS GOOD.

Who Do You Think You Are?

I've developed a curiousity over the last few years about where I come from. I really don't know much about my ancestry or my family lineage beyond my great-grandparents. And even then, I don't know much. I have one living great grandmother and 3 of my remaining grandparents. I've sent everyone emails trying to learn as much as I can about where everyone comes from.

My mom's grandmother, whom we called Nanny, died when I was a little girl. Yesterday I learned that her maiden name was Holditch. I spent a little bit of time on Google, and within 30 minutes, I came across the mother load.

It seems that a very very very distant cousin of mine not only made a family lineage chart that brought me all the way to my Nanny's name, but she even had photographs!! I was overwhelmed to think that these are my great, great, great, great grandparents. I emailed them to my Mamaw (Nanny's daughter) who was equally as overwhelmed.

This is George Washington Holditch. He is my great, great, great, great, great Grandfather.

This is the home of his son, Sidney Franklin Holditch. Sidney Franklin Holditch is my great, great, great, great Grandfather. This is in Mississippi.

And this is Sidney's wife, my great, great, great, great Grandmother Frances Smith.

And this is her grandson, John Davis Holditch. John Davis Holditch is my great, great, Grandfather. My Mamaw remembers him well. She called him "Pop".

This is John Davis and his wife, Mattie, my great, great grandmother.

And this is my favorite. This is Mattie. My great, great grandmother. Mamaw says she called her "Mom". Apparently she sold Avon. It makes sense, she was such a beautiful lady.

Something remarkable about Mattie is that she had 2 sets of twins! Both were boy girl. She named the first set Clarence Dell and Clara Bell. The second set of twins she names Leroy and Leona Ruth. Leona Ruth was my Nanny.

This is Clarence Dell and Clara Bell, Mattie's first set of twins, and my Nanny's brother and sister. Which means this is my Mamaw's Aunt and Uncle.

I am just amazed at all I was able to find!
I think I'm gonna frame some of these. How amazing!!
