Long and Lean

My freshman year of college, I took a ballet class three days a week for a dance credit. That's what happens when you're a Musical Theater major :)

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I would change into pink tights and a leotard and spend my morning at the barre in my tiny pink ballet shoes. I remember leaving there always feeling very exhausted, but like I had just had a great stretch!

If I look at pictures from my freshman year of college, it's one of those "MAN, I wish I still looked like that!". I didn't look so short and squatty.  Not so many curves. Longer lines. I miss it...

I really think it was the ballet. All the leaping and stretching made me very toned. Do they have adult ballet classes? I mean, I'm not looking to become the world's best ballet dancer (and let me tell you, that is the world's largest improbability) but I am thinking I'd like to take ballet again at a beginner level but with the adult folk. Not so much with the 3 year olds.

I just wanna be lean and not squatty.

Anybody wanna take a ballet class with me? ;)

I actually had that same thought my senior year of college. So I took an adult beginner ballet class. I was so bad - and its just not cute when you're grown up. And there were men in the class...and they wore very unattractive ballet uniforms. Maybe there's a class at some gym that have the same effect :).

I do! I do! Being that I am super prego I look a little large and in charge and squatty...but ballet is good for you all the time!

Found your blog through some mutual friends.

Houston Ballet offers adult classes as well as Houston Metropolitan Dance Center. TUTS has offered ballet in the past, but I don't know if they will in the fall. TUTS offered tap and jazz during the summer.

Houston Ballet and Houston Met offer a pay as you go option, or you can buy a class card.

I've taken the "beginner" class at Houston Ballet and it is a great workout. I have less ballet training than you probably do, so I'm sure you would be fine. It definitely kicked my butt!

Just google the organizations and you'll be able to find details on the websites.

Also, as a side note-I would much rather dance for 2 hours than walk or run on a treadmill for 30 minutes!
